Tasting notes: Turasan Seneler – Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Syrah 2008 – Turkey

This is one of the best Turasan red wines which was purchased for a priced of 30 TL from their wine shop in Cappadocia (The same wine is around 40 TL in Istanbul market)… Even, I may say that according to price – quality base, this is one of the best red wines in Turkey!..

Even though, I usually find white wines from Cappadocia region would be better; in fact, this red surprised me a lot. The wine has very dark deep ruby color, with very impressive violet, plum, black berry, black pepper and smoky notes from behind. After a while the wine turned into different characters and showed us mint, tobacco, lavender, Amasya apple, blue berry and interestingly rubber aromas.

I have no idea if I got all these perfumes and aromas due to the reason that I used “screwpull 3 in 1 wine aerator”  while pouring the wine into the glass; but, I know one thing that thanks to this aerator I get better results especially for such intensive wines.

The wine has high acidity and significant tannins which give us some impression that it might be aged for a few years as well, a certain potential lies here…

There is a long enough finish which is very nice… Although there is a maturation of 12 months of French oak, the oak barrel integration is very well structured so that, the fruit is not hidden by smoky oaky notes … 45% Merlot, 30% Cab. Sauvignon and 25% Syrah used for this wine.

I cooked a simple steak on a bed of barbecued capsicum with glazed red wine sauce together with a kind of pesto made by parsley, mint and rosemary. The food & wine pairing was stunning, I strongly advice this receipt with such a wine.
